Mentor: Person providing the service

- The mentor may request to see a sample of the writer’s work in advance of payment in order for the mentor to decide whether they are suited to the job.
- The mentor commits to intensively reading up to 6,000 words of prose or 20 pages of poetry in advance of each of the three meetings. This may vary if working on a script for film, TV or a play. This will be agreed in advance of payment on a case by case basis.
- The writer agrees to limit their communication with the mentor to: submitting work in advance of meetings and arranging meetings.
- All discussion of writing work should take place within the three sessions.
- Meetings should take place in a mutually agreed place. The Irish Writers Centre can be used free of charge subject to opening hours and room availability.
- The three meetings should take place within six months of the first submission of writing to the mentor. This period can only be extended if mutually agreed by writer and mentor.
- Any meetings, communications or arrangements planned for after the final meeting between writer and mentor fall outside any agreement initiated with the Irish Writers Centre. The Irish Writers Centre therefore takes no responsibilities for complaints after this point. The writer can, however, book the services of the mentor for another three sessions through the Irish Writers Centre.
- It is strongly recommended that the writer research the writings of the mentor they hope to work with to get a feel for their style and personality. The Irish Writers Centre will help you find the most suitable match but will not refund due to personal fall-outs or creative differences of opinion with the mentor.
- Refunds due to changes in circumstances of the writer or a desire not to continue with the mentoring scheme will not be provided. Only a doctor’s note stating that the writers cannot continue with the mentoring relationship for the remainder of the six months will be eligible for full or partial refund.
