11:00 Welcome and Plenary session concerning brand building, successful events for children, good PR and envisaging yourself as a children's writer/illustrator.
Panel members:
Jane O'Hanlon is Education Officer at Poetry Ireland, and coordinator of the Writers in Schools scheme. Jane joins us to speak about how the scheme operates and benefits children and young people, authors and illustrators, what authors should expect from school events, tips and advice for a successful schools event and child protection legislation.
Linda Geraghty is Venue Director at Riverbank Arts Centre, Newbridge. Her expertise is from a venue's perspective: what a venue expects, how they find authors and illustrators for successful schools events, what works and doesn't work for a theatre and exhibition space.
Steve Simpson is an illustrator with experience in a variety of families and schools events. Steve joins us to talk about working with venues and festivals, getting your name out there, tips and advice for building up a following and readership.

Workshop Session 1 - Mary Byrne is a freelance publicist who has worked with some of the biggest names in children's writing and illustration including Oliver Jeffers, Lauren Child, Malorie Blackman, Cressida Cowell, Derek Landy and Darren Shan. She currently divides her time between HarperCollins, Cressida Cowell and the Hay Festival.
This workshop concerns how to build your brand, the importance of good PR, how to attract media coverage, creating an online presence as an author/illustrator of children's books and the importance of real life communication in creating a relationship with your readers.
Workshop Session 2 - Sheena Wilkinson and Alan Nolan. Sheena is an award-winning author of books for young adults and is currently Writer-in-Residence at Church of Ireland College of Education. Alan Nolan is a comics creator and artist currently publishing comics for children with the O'Brien Press.
This workshop concerns preparing for events for family and schools audiences, what to expect, what works and doesn't work when dealing with a young audience and troubleshooting with many tips and pieces of hard-earned advice along the way.
